Becoming a UDA Registered Urban Designer

There are four application pathways to recognition, with combinations of qualifications and experience reflecting various career paths.
There are eight steps for the registration process, stated below:

Applicants must demonstrate a professional level of skills and knowledge, referenced to the Statement of Urban Designers’ Capabilities and demonstrated through work experience.

Pathway 1 requires 5+ years of Urban Design Experience.
Pathway 2 requires 7+ years of Urban Design Experience.
Pathway 3 requires 10+ years of Urban Design Experience.
Pathways 1 & 2 require a period of supervision by an experienced urban designer.

Pathways 1 requires 4.5+ years of design degree/s - Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture.
Pathway 2 requires 3+ years of tertiary study.

Two sponsors confirm the applicant meets the criteria.

The completed application form and fee are received by the UDA.

The UDA checks the application requirements have been met to proceed to the interview phase. The applicant is notified and pays the interview fee.

The applicant is interviewed by two assessors.

The UDA Committee confirms the application has passed all requirements and recognises the applicant as eligible for UDA Registered Urban Designer membership (RUDA). The successful applicant pays the RUDA membership fee, receives a unique registration number and certificate.
